Tourism Ministry opens Beijing bureau

After gaining Approved Destination Status from Chinese government, Israel launches extensive efforts to draw Chinese tourists to country

The Tourism Ministry opened a new Tourism Bureau in the Chinese capital of Beijing on Sunday. This was made possible after Israel gained Approved Destination Status from the Chinese government last September, a permit that allows organized groups from China to visit in Israel.

Israel currently operates 14 such bureaus worldwide.

The new bureau will work vis-à-vis the Chinese tourism industry in a bid to introduce the country's touristic appeal to potential visitors. This activity will include encouraging travel agencies to promote vacation packages in Israel, preparing guidebooks for Chinese travel agents, assisting Israeli travel agents that work with China, holding tours for Chinese travel agents and journalists in Israel, and more.

Tourism Minister Ruhama Avraham-Balila said this week that outgoing tourism from China has shown rapid increase in the last decade, and is considered to have great potential for further growth in the near future.

As part of the preparations for welcoming Chinese tourists in the country, the Tourism Ministry opened this week for the first time a course for tour guides in Chinese. The five-month course will teach participants how to cater to the unique interests and demands of the Chinese traveler.
