Tel Aviv program targets European tourists

Tourism bodies launch program titled 'Tel Aviv City Breaks' aimed at bringing tens of thousands of European visitors to city for short weekend vacations

BERLIN - The Tel Aviv Hotel Association, in partnership with the Association for Tourism Tel Aviv-Jaffa and the Tourism Ministry launched a new project at the Berlin Tourism Fair this week that aims to draw tens of thousands of European tourists to the city.

The project, titled "Tel Aviv City Breaks," offers discounted weekend vacation packages to European visitors that also include special benefits such as free hotel meals and free guided tours in Tel Aviv.

Eli Ziv, director general of the Tel Aviv Hotel Association said in Berlin Thursday that meetings have already been held with travel agents in Europe prior to the event, in order to start marketing Tel Aviv as a weekend destination right away.

According to Ziv, the price for a package that includes flights and three nights in a hotel, plus breakfast will vary from €380 from France to €420 from Germany.

"Additionally, we have prepared a brochure that lists all the different discounts offered to tourists at nightclubs, shops and galleries, as well as extensive information on attractions in the city," he said.

Ziv added that so far the program has been met with positive responses from travel agents abroad who have already started marketing the packages. The El Al airline will also launch a corresponding program aimed at persuading tourists purchasing the special weekend deals to travel to Israel with the company.
