Chazanut concert for needy children
'New Generation of Chazanim in Concert' to be held in Jerusalem in bid to raise money for scholarships for underprivileged kids at Emunah's day care centers
Emunah, the National Religious Women’s Organization, is constantly striving to improve and advance the status of women while strengthening the Jewish family. Emunah’s network of 135 Day Care Centers, provides working mothers with a safe, suitable solution for the daily care of their children.
However, there are children in the Emunah Day Care Centers whose mothers are single parents or who come from a low socioeconomic background and have difficulty in paying tuition. These mothers cannot afford to pay for childcare – but cannot afford to stay home to care for their children.
Leah lives near the Machane Yehudah Market in Jerusalem and is a single mother with two young children - a little girl, two-years-old, and a boy in the first grade.
Her daughter, Mimi, attends one of Emunah’s Day Care Centers: “I cannot tell you how difficult it is being both a mother and father to my two children. You cannot imagine the emotional and financial stress I have because my husband just got up one day and left us. I do not know where he is, and I do not want sympathy or charity. I support my family by working in a store selling linens. Without the help of Emunah, I would not be able to do even this if I had to stay home with Mimi. “
The Emunah Jerusalem Chapter is sponsoring a performance of the “New Generation of Chazanim in Concert” in order to raise money for The Scholarship Fund for Children from Needy Families in Emunah Day Care Centers so as to be able to help families in Jerusalem and the environs pay for day care.
Four world-renowned talented chazanim will perform in the event: Chazan Simon Cohen, Chazan Reuven Pinsky, Chazan Azi Schwartz and Chazan Colin Schachat.
They will be accompanied by the world-famous pianist Raymond Goldstein
and the "Kol Rina" Choir with Conductor Marc Temerlies.

The concert will take place on Sunday, June 21, 2009, Erev Rosh Chodesh Tammuz, at the Begin Heritage Center at 8 pm.
