Singing Psalms

The “Al Palgei Mayim” ensemble: Psalms to new tunes

For more than two thousand years, melodies have been hidden among the written words of the Psalms. The “Al Palgei Mayim” ensemble draws its lyrics from these ancient poems that so many of us know and find inspirational.

 

A unique project based on new melodies for the Psalms from a contemporary perspective.

Ha’orot: Songs by Rabbi Kook

A spiritual musical journey, in Hebrew and English, into the poetry of Rabbi Kook. The words and music blend together with the story of the rabbi, for an evening of jazz full of life and inspiration. The band’s album came out last April on John Zorn’s record label Tzadik.

 

The concert will take place the day after the anniversary of the passing of Rabbi Kook.

Halleluya Chazanut Festival in Lavi 

Kibbutz Lavi and Renanot of Jerusalem are organizing the Jewish Music Festival. There will be 3 days of performances and workshops, beginning from Wednesday 26th August 2009 until Shabbat terminates.

Workshops: On Wednesday and Thursday there will be workshops on Chazzanut with the finest lectures – also academic – run by the Chazzan David Ullman.

 

Performances: 26/08/2009 Humoristic show by Chanan Yovel and Jackie Levy.

 

27/08/2009 Major show with the Chazzans Helfgot and Glick, the Raanana Symphonet, and the 60 member choir of Netanya, Kfar Saba and Modiin, conducted by Yankele Rotner.

 

28/08/2009 Prayers will be led by Chazzans Helfgot and Glick, with a choir.
