Sukkot holiday replete with alternative music festivals
In addition to main stream music festivals, this year's holiday season brings 3 new indie festivals featuring new and old artists from across music spectrum
It's that time of year again. The busy holiday season is upon us, and, along with it, like every year, the musical festivals which are held all throughout the country.
In addition to the popular and returning Arad Festival and Hatamar Festival, which both host a slew of famous artists and draw large audiences, this year new types of indie music and alternative rock festivals will take place in Kibbutz Parod, Haifa, and in the indie capital of Israel, Tel Aviv.
The largest festival will be held during the Sukkot holiday at the Tzavta Theater in Tel Aviv from October 1 to October 3. The festival, titled "Helem Krach" (City Shock), will include special performances such as a tribute to Berry Sakharof 's "Signs of Weakness" in which various artists will perform songs from the album.
In addition, Neti Weissman, the veteran musician who was formerly an "S.O.B." band member together with Rami Fortis and Sakharof will debut his new album "The Alchemist". Weissman also took part in Fortis's album "Plonter" (Knot) and was a member of the groups "Zvuv" (Fly) and "Maim Chamim" (Hot water).
Other special performances scheduled to take place: Yaheli Sobol will hold a show in which he will perform revamped versions of all his favorite alternative artists. The group "Carusela" (Carousel) will host Amir Lev. Bassist Yahu Yaron will host Aviv Gadage and Ram Ohayon will host many artists who have collaborated with him in past years, among them Rogel Alpher, Assaf Gavron, Ohad Pishof, Dafna Keinan and more.
Other performances include Amit Erez, "Electra", "Bnei Hama", Shalom Gad, David Blau, "M.e.s.s.", "Ashkara Metim", Jango and many more.
The northern Kibbutz Parod will hold its third annual "Huz Mize" (other than that) festival, which features indie artists along with more renowned ones.
This year the festival will be held September 25 to 26 and will host "Knesiat Hasehel" (Church of Reason). " Eatliz", Asaf Amdursky, Amir Lev, "The Ramirez Brothers", Gilad Kahana, Oren Barzilay, "Kululush", Ori Mark, "Ha Moadon" (The Club), Yael Dekelbaum, Tomer Yosef, Ben Handler from the band "Trampoline" and more.
French electro music band "Les Trucs" will also perform, and there will be optional camping allowed on the festival grounds.
Haifa also organized a mini-indie fest entitled "Haifolk" which will take place on October 3 at "Syncopa Bar" in Haifa and will host artists Amit Erez, Nadav Azulay, Omri Klein, Roy Rieck, the "Medley Band", Yael Dekelbaum, Tal Cohen-Salev and more.
