Ofra Strauss among world's top 50 businesswomen
Strauss Group chairwoman ranked 12th on Financial Times' list topped by Indra Nooyi, chief executive of PepsiCo
Strauss Group Chairwoman Ofra Strauss is ranked among the top 50 businesswoman in the world in a list published by the Financial Times over the weekend.
The publication placed Strauss 12th on the list, noting that since 1996, she has strengthen Strauss Group through acquiring a number of brands and expanding abroad while simultaneously integrating Elite.
The Financial Times describes the humble beginnings of the group and Strauss' business upbringing as a child.
"What started as a tiny Israeli dairy farm in the mid-1930s had turned, by the time Ofra Strauss was growing up, into a household name, known nationally for its cheeses and ice cream," wrote the Financial Times. "In the subsequent decades, Strauss watched her father develop the Strauss Group into a global entity, including tie-ups with Danone and Unilever."
First on the Financial Times list is Indra Nooyi, chief executive of PepsiCo. Other women on the list are Andrea Jung, chief executive of cosmetics company Avon; Irene Rosenfeld, chief executive of Kraft Foods; Ho Ching, who has been running Temasek Holdings, Singapore’s state investment company and one of the world’s oldest sovereign wealth funds, since 2002; Janet Robinson, chief executive of the New York Times; and Saudi's Nahed Tader, co-founder and chief executive of Gulf One Investment Bank, who was also the first woman to make it to the top of a Saudi bank
The Financial Times noted that only 3% of the executives ranked in Fortune and 10% of the directors of large companies in Europe are women. In Asia, the numbers are reportedly even lower.
