Rabin Square rally postponed due to rain

Organizers of central ceremony in memory of late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin postpone Saturday event to next week due to heavy thunderstorms

The central rally in memory of the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin scheduled to take place Saturday evening in Tel Aviv's Rabin's Square was canceled due to the poor weather.

The organizers told Ynet they were concerned the stormy weather would keep people from attending the mass rally in the square where the prime minister was assassinated 14 years ago.

They decided to postpone the rally to next week. The heavy rains caused damage to the site, tearing the large banner as well as the stage cover and the VIP tent.

The forecasters predict a stormy weekend, with rains and thunderstorms to fall mainly in northern Israel on Friday, and to continue throughout the night.

The rain will continue to fall in northern and central Israel on Saturday and Sunday.

Friday's rain also caused some flooding in the streets of Netanya and main road in the area.

There were no reports of injuries, but many vehicles were left stranded and their drivers were rescued by rescue services.
