Gay Pride Parade kicks off in Tel Aviv

Thousands of people started marching in the official Gay Pride Parade being put on by the city of Tel Aviv. The parade originates at Meir Park in the center of the city and terminates at Gordon Beach. Many of the marchers are carrying Israeli flags alongside gay pride flags.

Among those who spoke at the kickoff of the parade was Ayala Katz, mother of slain hate-crime victim, Nir Katz, murdered last summer at the Tel Aviv gay youth center. MK Shelly Yacimovich, who also spoke, said, "There are many politician friends of the community who are in the closet. It is time for them to come out." (Yoav Zitun)
