Israel: Libyan ship to sail to Egypt

Foreign minister concludes with Greek, Moldovan counterparts that ship will not sail to Gaza

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman spoke on Saturday with his counterparts in Greece and Moldova, and the three concluded that a Libyan aid ship sailing to Gaza with 2,000 tons of supplies would instead dock in Egypt.

The ship belongs to Libya, but carries a Moldovan flag and departed from a Greek port. Lieberman's office said that following the conversation between the three countries the ship would dock at el-Arish port.

Organizers of the newest flotilla to Gaza have not yet responded to the report, and it is unclear whether they will follow the new orders, but sources in Jerusalem said Moldova's government had instructed them to sail to Egypt.

The foreign minister said he had clarified to his counterparts that Israel would not allow its blockade on Gaza to be broken.

On Friday evening Israeli Ambassador Gabriela Shalev urged UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to stop the ship from sailing to Gaza. The matter was raised in a meeting with Ban and his senior advisors.

"In spite of the stated intention of this mission, we are deeply concerned that the true nature of its actions remains dubious. Israel has repeatedly guaranteed that humanitarian aid will be delivered securely through its established channels," Shalev wrote in a letter submitted to the UN chief, Security Council president and General Assembly president – Ali Treki of Libya.
