Recording of 'Jewish terrorist': Salah's death will lead to war

Alleged Shin Bet handler heard pushing Haim Pearlman, suspected of killing four Palestinians, to assassinate Islamic Movement head Sheikh Raed Salah in recording distributed by suspect's aides

Friends of Haim Pearlman, who is suspected of the murder of four Palestinians in Jerusalem and seven attempted murders, say he was operated by the Shin Bet. The Israeli intelligence service has not denied these claims. Meanwhile, Pearlman's associates have distributed recordings of alleged conversations between Pearlman and his handler, in which the two discussed assassinating head of the Islamic Movement's northern branch, Sheikh Raed Salah.

The recordings reveal a conversation between the two about the possibility of a hit and its consequences: "There will be a lot of noise for some time. What, will it lead to a war?" the handler says. "What can you do, in war, there are casualties. I have no problem taking a soul."

Pearlman responds saying, "I wouldn't want to get in trouble." At one point, the conversation shifts to a practical explanation. "Listen," the handler says, 'It doesn't have to be such a big problem. His car passes by, you fire. Chances are the driver will be killed.

"If you shoot well and the vehicle rolls into some corner, then you can come and finish the job. Unless you already finished him off in the shooting…Or you can plant some bomb on his car. This is the most classic. This way, nothing remains, everything is blown away."

In another conversation, the handler refers to the raid on the Gaza-bound Turkish flotilla. "Where did they get those weapons from? All those clubs and things? Where did they get it from? They are dogs… Look, now the Rachel Corrie ship is arriving, a ship of English people. Did you hear anything? Why? Because they really came to protest. This doesn't mean I wouldn't drown them as well. Damn them, may they drop dead. The entire world suddenly turned into bleeding hearts. But the, what's it called, the Marmara? I would have killed them all."

Meanwhile, the Petah Tikva District Court rejected the Pearlman's appeal on the prohibition against him meeting with his legal counsel.

The appeal was submitted by Attorney Adi Keidar following the Petah Tikva Magistrates' Court's ruling. The hearing on the appeal was held behind closed doors.

Keidar denied the allegations leveled against Pearlman and said that he is being kept in detainment merely as a means to pressure him. Keidar also claimed that the allegations are based only on indirect conversations.

"We deny the allegations. They are making a false case against him. I am being updated via media outlets and other sources. It turns out that this is a complex case of the Shin Bet handling Pearlman," Keidar said.

"They brought him to the edge of an abyss so that he would do what they asked of him. I don't want to imagine what would have happened had all the things they asked of him – including the assassination of Raed Salah – had been undertaken. He was being used (by Shin Bet) because he needed money," added Keidar.
