Dad suspected of murder reenacts killing

Itay Ben Dror, suspected of stabbing his three children to death in their sleep, returns to Netanya apartment to reenact murder. Police source says father showed no signs of remorse over act

Two days after allegedly stabbing his children to death in their sleep, Itay Ben Dror on Monday returned to the scene of the crime in his Netanya apartment. Ben Dror was taken from the holding cell where he spent the night, and wearing a pajama from the hospital where he was kept on Sunday and a bullet-proof vest, he reenacted the murder of his children Omer, Roni and Or in front of police officers.

Ben Dror was brought to the scene in a police patrol car that was parked at the entrance to the building. As he got out of the vehicle detectives began questioning him about the incident while filming him with a video camera. Ben Dror refused to answer the media's questions, and covered his face with both his hands. A passerby yelled out a curse word at him.

Commander Yigal Ben-Shalom of the Central District's Central Unit, was also present at the reenactment. Neighbors gathered near the building, and one of them shouted, "Why is he hiding his face?" Another neighbor said, "People take food out of their mouths to give to their children, and he murders children." Ben Dror was brought to the apartment in a bullet-proof vest for fear he may be attacked.

The suspect's reenactment of his children's murder was chillingly nonchalant. A source at the scene told Ynet that Ben Dror showed no remorse, expressed no apology and did not shed a single tear during the reenactment. When he was escorted out of the building neighbors shouted, "Murderer," "How do you sleep at night?", "Suffer for the rest of your life. Shame on you."

Solitary cell under supervision

On Sunday, the father's remand was extended by 10 days and he was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Ben Dror is under tight 24-hour supervision in his holding cell. The Israel Prison Service, to which he will be transferred in the coming days, plans to place him in a solitary cell under supervision. "Only after a few days pass and after he is diagnosed and evaluated, it will be decided whether to alleviate the terms of his supervision," an Israel Prison Service source said.

Ben Dror's children were laid to rest at the Netanya cemetery on Sunday, with hundreds of people in attendance. The children's mother, Lilach Shem-Tov, cried, "Why three children? Why all of them? What am I supposed to do now?" and said, "Don't worry, I will soon be coming with you, to take care of you."

Hours before the funeral Shem-Tov said, "My goal in life is to have him sit behind bars. Then I will join my children. A mother does not abandon her children. I have nothing to live for, my life ended at the age of 38."

Ben Dror's family was asked not to attend the funeral. The family released a statement condemning the murder. "The family is shocked and crushed by this horrific event that has befallen us," the suspect's parents Micha and Drora write.

"Right now, the family is focusing on grieving the inconceivable loss of the three innocent, loving and smiling grandchildren and nephews and niece that are no longer with us. We condemn and renounce Itay's vile act and leave the law to bring him to justice."
