Magen David Adom medical teams who were rushed to the scene found the two unconscious in an open area at around 3 am and were forced to pronounce them dead shortly thereafter.
Eran, another teen who was with the two and who also inhaled the gas, was saved at the last minute and taken to the Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot.
A police inquiry suggests that the three were first introduced to the substance last week when small balloons containing laughing gas were handed out in a party they attended.
Hoping to enhance the experience Omer and Avishai obtained a 2-meter gas tank by Friday night and proceeded to inhale the gas. It was later revealed that the tank contained a high concentration of gas.
Feeling ill and seeing his friends collapse, Eran called for help, however it was too late for Omer and Avishai. It appears the two inhaled large amounts of gas which caused them to deteriorate rapidly while Eran inhaled a smaller amount.
Police suspect that the teens obtained the large gas tank from one of the area's dental clinics. "They knew exactly what they were looking for and found it," a police source said.
"They didn’t have much of a chance," another police official said Saturday. "They inhaled medical gas, used by dentists, straight out of the container."
Police arrested two soldiers Saturday who are suspected of stealing the gas container that served the teens.
It is suspected that the soldiers, serving in elite IDF units, stole the tank last week from a dental clinic in Kfar Warburg and sold the gas at a party held in the area. It appears the victims took the empty gas tank from the party.
The two teens were scheduled to enlist in the Israel Defense Forces in the coming weeks, one of who was slated to commence training for an elite IDF unit.
