Alcatel-Lucent firing 20 workers in Israel
Some 100 people employed company's development center in Petah Tikva; 20 more expected to be dismissed in early 2011 due to a strategic shift in Alcatel-Lucent's optic division
Alcatel-Lucent's development center in Israel is in the process of dismissing 20 employees and is expected to fire 20 more at the end of the first quarter of 2011, Calcalist reported Monday.
According to estimates, the center currently employs some 100 people, so by the end of the process only 60 will remain.
The center, located in Petah Tikva, develops optic communication systems and is based on the Israeli start-up company Native Networks, which Alcatel-Lucent acquired in 2005 for $55 million.
In tandem with the dismissal of the employees, the directors of the development center, Eli Sadatzky and Eran Schmidt, left their positions and Yaron Kodman was appointed to replace them.
The dismissal process is taking place due to a shift in the Alcatel Lucent's world optic department.
