Sculptor of Knesset wall: I'm just as loyal as Lieberman

In response to cabinet's approval of loyalty oath bill, Israel Prize laureate Dani Karavan ashamed his creation is on display in plenum

Protests against Citizenship Act amendment still going strong: Israel Prize laureate, sculptor Dani Karavan , who created the well known southern wall in the Knesset plenum on Monday criticized the government decision to amend the Citizenship Act. Ministers who voted in favor of the amendment, were not spared, but it was Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman who received most of Karavan's anger.

"The amendment is trying to prove that Lieberman is more loyal to the country than you or me, but I'm as loyal to this country as he is", claims Karavan, "I give this country much more than he ever did, mostly respect, and I took part in Israel's wars". In his words, "the clause in the Declaration of Independence says this is a state of all its citizens, regardless of religion, sex or race".

In an interview with Ynet, Karavan said that he doesn't regret his statements from Sunday's protest rally in Tel Aviv, where he said that he was "ashamed" that his exhibit is on display in Israel's Knesset.

"My wall is a backdrop for speeches that go against the spirit of the Declaration of Independence, and contradict some of its articles and articles in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, of which Israel is a signatory; I am ashamed", said Karavan.

Caravan suggested that all Israeli citizens commit to the Declaration of Independence. "Why would this issue even be necessary if you are loyal to the Declaration of Independence? People should identify with that. Everyone - not just Arabs, but people who aren't acknowledged as Jews, even though they claim to be Jewish - can all identify with that".
