Mamilla Hotel among world's top 100

Jerusalem hotel to be featured among Travel Sunday Times' top 100 hotels. List describes luxury accommodation as having 'more style than David Beckham'

The Mamilla Hotel, overlooking the walls of Jerusalem's Old City, has been chosen among the Sunday Travel Times' top 100 hotels in the world. It is the only Israeli hotel on the list.

The list will be published in the November issue of the British travel magazine. Read by travelers from all parts of the world, the list traditionally brings widespread exposure to the hotels it features. The accommodations are chosen by the magazine's editors and reporters, who visit each destination individually.

Mamilla, one of the newest hotels in Jerusalem, is featured in the Middle East segment of the list alongside Beirut's Le Gray Hotel and Damascus' Beit Al Mamlouka Hotel.

The hotel is described as catching a visitor off guard like a virgin in a red light district, and said to have more style than David Beckham. It was also described as adding a touch of modernism to the Old City, complete with baths cascading like waterfalls that create a spiritual vibe.

This is not the first time the hotel has gotten international recognition as one of the best hotels in the world; last year it was placed among the top picks of Conde Nast's Traveler Magazine.

Owned by Alfred Akirov, the Mamilla Hotel is located in the heart of Alrov Mamilla Avenue, a recently-built shopping center at the foothills of the Old City. The hotel was designed by Italian architect Piero Lissoni, and although Israel does not use the star system to grade its hotels, it is considered a five star accommodation.

Also on the list are Barcelona's Mandarin Oriental, Saint Petersburg's Astoria and New York's Crosby Street.
