EasyJet to fly Basel-Tel Aviv route

European low-fares airline's new flights offer Israeli travelers opportunity to access Switzerland, Germany and France; expected to carry 40,000 passengers on first year

European low-fares airline easyJet marked last week the arrival of the first flight from Basel to Tel Aviv.

EasyJet, which introduced the low-fares flights revolution to Israel last year, is now operating flights from Tel Aviv to London, Geneva and Basel. This new route to Basel offers Israeli travelers with the opportunity to access Switzerland as well as Germany and France, as Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg is a cross borders located airport.

EasyJet will operate flights from Tel Aviv to Basel 3 times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Flights from Tel Aviv depart at 1:40 pm and arrive in Basel at 5:20 pm. Flights from Basel depart at 7:55 am and arrive in Tel Aviv at 12:55 pm. Starting fares from Tel Aviv to Basel are 39.99 euros (about $53) and from Basel to Tel Aviv 42 euros ($56).

Sophie Dekkers, easyJet’s UK commercial manager, said that "following our successful Tel Aviv-London and Tel Aviv-Geneva routes, we are delighted to expand our service in Israel and to offer another attractive destination in Switzerland such as Basel.

"The location of the airport, on the French-Swiss-German border, offers great access to cities such as Basel in Western Switzerland, Freiburg in Southern Germany and Mulhouse or Strasbourg in the North east of France."
