Two Palestinian gunmen were injured when Israeli warplanes conducted eight separate raids on targets in Gaza late Monday night, medical officials and eyewitnesses reported.
The gunmen, members of Hamas' armed wing - the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades - were hurt during three strikes on targets in Khan Younis, located in south Gaza. One of the gunmen was seriously injured. Israeli aircraft also attacked in Beit Layiha, in the northern part of the coastal enclave. No Palestinians were hurt in that strike.
The strikes followed intense mortar fire at Israeli communities surrounding Gaza. At around noon Monday seven shells landed in the western Negev, but caused no injury or damage. Two additional mortars were fired at Israel later in the day. No injuries or damage were reported in that attack either.
On Sunday Israeli aircraft attacked a rocket-launching cell in central Gaza. Five cell members were killed.
