Cinema City. Coming soon to Haifa

Cinema City to be built in Haifa

Compound to open in northern city in 2013; to include 25 movie theaters, huge amusement park

Cinema City, northern Israel's biggest entertainment and recreation center, will open in Haifa in 2013. Some NIS 600 million (about $168 million) will be invested in the new center, which is being built by Leon and Moshe Edery and the Shamrock Group. It will be located at the exit from the Carmel Tunnels towards the Check Post.

The center will stretch over 20 acres and include 25 cinemas and four theaters, which will offer about 6,000 seats, and a commercial floor with a variety of restaurants, cafés and stores.

In addition, a huge amusement park will be built outside the center measuring 30,000 square meters in size. According to Leon Edery, "We are talking with Disney about the possibility of getting some devices from them, but there is no certainty that the place will be operated with a Disney franchise."

Edery, one of the owners of New Lineo Cinema, which owns the Cinema City complexes in Herzliya and Rishon Lezion, added that the new center, which is in its advanced planning stages, will provide 1,000 workplaces for the area's residents.

"In light of the unusual success of the centers in Herzliya and Rishon Lezion, we have decided to implement the innovative entertaining concept which we developed in Haifa as well. We have proved that the people of Israel are thirsty for cinema and are looking for a cultural experience."

In addition to its activity in Israel, New Lineo operates five entertainment complexes in Protugal, which were inaugurated in 2007 and 2008. Last month the company launched its first compound in Barcelona at a total investment of €40 million ($54 million). The company plans to invest another €100 millon ($135 million) in the development of its European activity by 2012.
