Two weeks after regaining his consciousness, Knesset Member Binyamin Ben-Eliezer (Labor) has been anesthetized and returned to the intensive care unit at Assaf HaRofeh hospital south of Tel Aviv.
The former minister is in serious condition, medical officials said Friday.
Hospital officials say the latest complication in Ben-Eliezer's conditions is unrelated to the pneumonia that prompted his hospitalization about a month ago. The doctors are expected to rouse him Saturday morning.
After he regained his consciousness last, the hospital said it will take time before he fully recovers from his illness.
The former minister was able to speak with his close associates in recent days. Yedioth Ahronoth reported that he told his former strategic advisor, Daniel Cohen: "I coped with something very difficult, but now I'm strong. I was almost on the other side, saw what's happening there, and decided to return. Now I'm here."
The 75-year-old Ben-Eliezer has served as a Knesset member for the past 27 years. He most recently served as the Labor, Industry and Employment Minister, until Ehud Barak left the Labor Party, prompting the remaining Labor members to leave the government.
