A spike in demand for conjugal room time at Hasharon Prison has caused several inmates' conjugal visits to be postponed recently – a situation that prompted Shay Shirazi, who is serving a 1.5-year sentence for aiding and abetting murder, to stand up for his rights in court.
The prison has one room allocated for conjugal visits. Equipped with a double bed, a mini-bar, a television, and a shower, the room is often used for inmates' wedding nights.
Hasharon Prison inmates who are denied prison leaves and are on good behavior are normally entitled to one six-hour conjugal visit every month, but with the recent increase in the number of prisoners the visits are now scheduled bi-monthly.

Shirazi, the son of mobster Aryeh 'Rico' Shirazi, has petitioned the Petah Tikva Court for Administrative Matters to allow him a visit each month.
He also requested the court to allow him to receive a men's magazine, Blazer, which the prison service banned due to its "pornographic content."
The Israel Prison Service spokesperson said in response that the establishment is aware of the problem.
