Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz ordered his ministry to funnel NIS 350 million (approx. $101 million) to municipalities across Israel in favor of revamping their roads.
The funds, which are to be transferred immediately, are meant to finance road repairs and upgrades, in order to improve safety.
The municipalities were given six months to use the funds to that effect.
The NIS 350 million were earmarked in addition to the ministry's NIS 200 million ($57.6 million) budget for municipal road infrastructure and its NIS 250 million ($72 million) budget for interurban road infrastructure.
Some NIS 240 million will be invested in Jewish townships and about NIS 110 million in Arab townships, across Israel.
