RadioShack may return to Israel
Representatives of American electronics retail stores chain visit country to look into option of reentering Israeli market
RadioShack first entered Israel through a franchiser in the early 2000s, but was forced to shut down its stores after less than two years due to poor sales. The initial plan was to have 70 stores across the country, but only three were eventually opened, and then closed.
Yedioth Ahronoth has learned that a delegation on behalf of RadioShack visited Israel recently to look into the option of reopening stores in the Holy Land.
The American chain's representative met with leaders of the ACE chain of the Gaon Group – ACE CEO Shalom Hochman and Gaon Holdings owner Moshe Gaon. ACE currently has an electrical appliances department marketed by different suppliers.
The Gaon Group confirmed that the meeting had taken places, and said in response: "Gaon Holdings is looking into and is not ruling out any offers to add new companies to the group, but nothing concrete has been agreed upon at the moment."
