(Video) Posters for new film, showing leading actress riding bike, mysteriously disappear. 'It caused a misunderstanding,' local media explain
VIDEO - Posters promoting a new Iranian feature film, "Living with Closed Eyes", mysteriously disappeared across the Islamic Republic in recent days.
The mystery was solved Friday, when local media reported that the "problem" in the posters was a picture showing leading actress, Taraneh Alidousti, riding a bicycle. "It caused a misunderstanding among some people," the different reports said.
It was also claimed that the film's producers may have removed the posters themselves, "so as not to cause any problems, as this did not help with the ticket sales."
The film, with the somewhat ironic name, was directed by Rasoul Sadr Ameli. It tells the story of a brother and sister living together and the problems they face.
"It's interesting that ticket sales began increasing after the reports of the posters' removal," local media reported. Following the affair, the film's distributor ordered new posters – without the actress' picture – which were posted across Tehran.
The Iranian authorities were likely unhappy with the picture's "immodesty" and ordered the posters' removal. The enforcement of the Muslim dress code and modesty rules has been boosted since President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was first elected in 2005.
