Foreign Ministry beats Israel boycotts

Pro-Palestinian groups calling for cultural boycotts of Jewish state experience series of failures

Pro-Palestinian groups calling for a cultural boycott against Israel have experienced several failures recently thanks to the Foreign Ministry's work.

Ireland is one of the countries where many anti-Israel boycott calls have been made. Nonetheless, Irish dancing phenomenon Riverdance recently completed a two-week tour of the Holy Land.

Foreign Ministry representatives met with the group members, gave them a guided tour of Jerusalem and heard them praise the Israeli audience.

"We haven't seen such a warm audience in many places in the world," said company manager Alanna Murphy, who promised that the dance group would consider holding another tour in Israel in about two years.

Foreign Ministry officials praised the dancers for not giving in to the "brainwashing" in their country.

The Ministry marked another victory in Italy, where the concert tour of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra led by Maestro Zubin Mehta was declared a great success.

Some 2,500 viewers applauded the orchestra during the opening concert, which was defined by the Foreign Ministry as a "decisive response" to a small group of pro-Palestinian activists handing out leaflets outside the auditorium.

According to Rafi Gamzu, head of the Cultural Affairs Department at the Foreign Ministry, "The cultural boycott attempts are carried out by a handful of noisy activists motivated by hatred and ignorance.

"Visits by artists from all across the globe prove that the high level of Israeli artistic work is receiving recognition."
