Tapped to replace Shapira – Netvision CEO Nir Stern. Shapira bids farewell to the company at a time when it is preparing to scale regulatory pressures and competition on part of virtual operators, while in the background, profits slide

Amos Shapira is expected to step down from the helm of cellular provider Cellcom. Calcalist learned that Netvision chief Nir Stern was named to replace Shapira. Calcalist also learned that the exchange will probably take place within a few days.

Shapira informed the holder of the controlling interest of IDB – Cellcom's parent company – Nochi Dankner of his wish to retire after six intensive years on the job. Shapira is considered to have a centralized style of management and he seeks to be fully involved even in the smallest details. He is also considered a colorful character on the local business landscape.

Shapira led the company to its NASDAQ offering and during his six years with the company earned nearly NIS 43 million. To add to it all, the company's profits for the first half of 2011 have dropped 14% as compared with the same period last year.

Stern was appointed as Netvision CEO on March 2010. Before that he served as VP at Pelephone cellular provider and played a part in several of the company's major moves, among then the launch of the new third generation network.
