US offical: Arab leaders offered asylum to Syria's Assad

Arab leaders have told the US privately that they have offered asylum to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, aiming to convince him to resign, a State Department official said.

"Almost all the Arab leaders say the same thing: The Assad regime must end. The change in Syria is inevitable," Jeffrey Feltman, the assistant secretary of state for the Middle East, told a foreign affairs subcommittee at the US Senate. (AFP)
