Fashion chain Desigual coming to Israel

Private fashion body may open eight concept stores of popular Spanish brand in 2013. Desigual's clothes currently marketed in Israel by FM chain

Israeli entrepreneurs are keeping up the inflow of prominent global fashion brands into the country: Calcalist has learned that popular Spanish fashion brand Desigual is set to open several concept stores in Israel.

The brand will be imported by a private businessman from the fashion sector who plans on opening about eight concept stores.

Desigual representatives visited Israel once in the past and are expected to visit the country again within the next two months for an additional round of talks.

An agreement between the parties has yet to be signed; however, if the deal takes place, Desigual stores will be opened in shopping malls and on main shopping strips only on 2013.

The stores will carry menswear and women's and children clothes and shoes. Israeli fashion consumers are already familiar with the brand as it is sold by the FM fashion chain.

The company operates 300-square-meter (3,229 square-foot) mega stores throughout the world, including in Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, London, Berlin, Bahrain, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Egypt; however, the company's stores in Israel will be on a smaller 150-square-meter (1,615 square-foot) scale.

Each store, designed according to concepts dictated by the company's management in Spain, will be built at an investment of $1 million.

Desigual was founded in Barcelona in 1984. The line is typically colorful; its items are asymmetric and display vivid prints. The brand's prices are mid-range. Estimates are that prices in Israel will be about 20% higher than in Spain.

The company ended 2010 on a €450 million ($595 million) turnover.
