Defense Minister Ehud Barak has reiterated his call for new legislation to replace the Tal Law, which grants yeshiva students exemptions from army service. He stressed that the replacement law should ensure that those who enlist in the IDF get higher education grants.
Barak also proposed to set the service exemption quota at 2,000-3,000 religious individuals. He posited that the Tal Law should be extended for one year, during which the replacement legislation can be formed. (Attila Somfalvi)
