Nokia Siemens Israel has decided to shut down its research and development center in Israel, and has begun dismissing most of its 100 R&D employees, Calcalist learned.
The company will continue to operate maintenance and sales services in Israel, which will include only several dozens of employees.
Last November, global Nokia Siemens stated it would dismiss 17,000 employees by the end of 2013. The company said it had already begun downsizing its workforce in Israel which is part of the said global move.
Nokia Siemens declined to confirm the exact number of employees it will lay off and it would not corroborate whether it plans to shut down the R&D center in Israel. The company did, however, say that it would maintain its position in Israel as a large employer.
