Omar Abu Rwayyis, who plays in the position of goalkeeper for the Palestinian Olympic soccer team, was arrested by Israeli authorities Monday over his alleged involvement in shooting on IDF soldiers.
Rwayyis was arrested in a joint IDF-Shin Bet operation in the West Bank, following an incident in which Palestinian rioters fired on IDF troops in the Al-Amari refugee camp, near Ramallah in January.
No injuries or damage were reported in the incident.

Op-ed: Time has come to put an end to ‘death to Arabs’ chants at Israeli soccer stadiums
Security forces said that the event, which took place on January 20, saw several Red Crescent employees, including Rwayyis, fire on Israeli soldiers using AK-47 assault rifles supplied by an officer of the Palestinian security forces, who served as their supervisor.
The ensuing investigation derived that the goalie carried out the attack with another accomplice. Twelve other suspects were detained in the case as well.
Some of the suspects revealed future plans to attack IDF soldiers stationed in various checkpoints in the West Bank.
Security sources said that the information helped in the successful prevention of those attacks.
