Shatilov wins European bronze

Israeli gymnast wins European Gymnastics Championship's third place in floor exercise with 15.166 points. Greece's Kosmidis wins gold

Israeli gymnast Alexander Shatilov, 25, claimed a bronze medal in the European Gymnastics Championships held in France Sunday, scoring 15.166 points in the floor exercise.

Shatilov is the first Israeli gymnast to win medals in two major competitions – the European Championship and the World Championship.

This is Shatilov's third European medal, after winning bronze in 2009 and silver in 2011.

Shatilov was the first to compete in the floor finals, hoping to repeat his second place win from the semi finals.

However, a misstep cost him a deduction and he finished with a score of 15.166.

Greece's Eleftherios Kosmidis, one of the favorites for an Olympic gold in gymnastics in the 2012 London Games, won the gold with a score of 15.766 points. Dzmitry Barkalau from Belarus took the silver medal with 15.300 points.

The Olympic Committee of Israel is planning a festive reception for Shatilov upon his return, during which he will be awarded a grant of NIS 25,000 (about $8,000). His trainer will receive half the amount.
