Members of the opposition in Syrian accused President Bashar Assad's regime of being responsible for the assassination in Damascus of senior Hamas operative Kamal Ranaja Wednesday night.
One opposition activist said Assad's regime ordered the hit. The activist, a former journalist, claimed Ranaja was tortured before he was killed. According to her, the hit was a message to Hamas, which turned its back on Assad following the violent crackdown on the opposition. (Elior Levy)
