IDF strikes Gaza targets in response to rockets

Israeli aircraft attack smuggling tunnels, arms manufacturing facility; Palestinians says two children lightly hurt

The Israel Air Force bombed at least three targets in Gaza early Monday in retaliation to Saturday night's rocket attacks on southern Israel, Palestinian new agencies reported.

According to one of the reports, two children were lightly injured from shrapnel in a strike on a tunnel located near Rafah in the southern part of the Hamas-ruled territory. Overnight the IDF Spokesperson's Office confirmed that the army attacked four targets across the Strip.


The Palestinian Ma'an news agency said Israeli aircraft struck a training facility in eastern Gaza's Tufach neighborhood. Witnesses said a fire broke out at the scene, but there were no reports of injury.


The Gaza-based news agency Safa said the facility belonged to Hamas' armed wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades. Safa also reported a third strike on an unpopulated area in the northern part of the Strip. The agency said the attack took place near an American school in the western part of Beit Lahiya.


Later, the IDF confirmed that the Air Force attacked a weapons manufacturing facility, a terrorist hub and a tunnel used by terrorists in northern Gaza, as well as a smuggling tunnel in the southern part of the Strip.


The army said forces identified direct hits, adding that the strikes were launched in retaliation to the recent rocket fire on Israel. The IDF stressed that Hamas was responsible for everything that goes on in Gaza.
