Rocket hits backyard in Netivot

Gaza terrorists continue to pound southern communities: Explosion heard in city of Netivot on Friday evening as rocket lands in house's yard. No injuries reported; one person suffers from shock

A rocket fired from the Gaza Strip exploded in a backyard in the southern city of Netivot shortly after 7:30 pm Friday. There were no reports of injuries, but one person suffered from shock.

 

Frightened residents reported hearing explosion sounds. The Color Red alert system was activated before the rocket hit the area.

Haim, who lives in the neighborhood hit by the rocket, told Ynet: "We were in the middle of the Shabbat meal, heard the rocket alert and ran into a fortified area. We heard a loud explosion. It felt like an earthquake. We went out and saw that the rocket had landed in house's backyard."

Moshe Knafo, another resident, said he was also in the middle of dinner when he heard the siren. "We are already used to these things, but it takes time from the moment you hear the boom till you understand where the rocket landed.

 

"I live relatively near to the place, so I came here. Luckily, no one was hurt. It's a neighborhood of elderly people, not young people. One of the rooms in my house was damaged from shrapnel. Thank goodness no one was hurt."

Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists fired dozens of rockets and mortar shells at the Eshkol Regional Council on Monday morning, during the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah, in response to an Israel Defense Forces attack in Gaza which left two Palestinians seriously injured.

 

There were no injuries, but some buildings sustained damage and several goats were killed in a local kibbutz. According to Eshkol officials, some 55 rockets hit the area that day.

 

On Tuesday, Palestinian terror groups fired additional rockets into Israel, without causing any injuries. A rocket launched from the Gaza Strip on Tuesday exploded in an open area between Netivot and the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council.

 

The IDF struck in the northern Gaza Strip on Wednesday night. The IDF Spokesperson's Office reported that Israel Air Force jets attacked a terrorist activity center and identified an accurate hit.

 

Palestinians reported that the IDF hit a training camp of Hamas' military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, and that there were no injuries in the strike.
