US confirms it mediated between Israel, Syria in 2010
State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland confirmed the Yedioth Ahronoth report that the United States attempted to renew peace talks between Israel and Syria in late 2010.
Nuland told reporters that "prior to the eruption of all of the violence in Syria, there were efforts to try to support contacts between Israel and Syrian officials. But obviously, in the current environment in Syria, that's not something that one can continue to work on." (Yitzhak Benhorin, Washington)
