A surveillance video obtained and released by a local news site, crownheights.com shows a homeless man being beaten up by what appears to be a group of New York Police Department (NYPD) officers. But the video shows the shirtless and shoeless man being beaten by two officers. The man was allegedly also pepper sprayed before being arrested. On Monday (October 15) New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind called the alleged beating "unconscionable." In a press conference, Hikind said the officers in the video should be suspended. "These officers must be suspended if they have not yet been suspended. They could not be out there protecting the public. We need to be protected from them. And the New York City Police Department, the commissioner needs to do everything to make sure that these things don't happen," he said. According to local news Halevi is being charged with assaulting a police officer, trespassing, resisting arrest and harassment. He can face up to five years in prison for assaulting an officer but is currently out on bail. NYPD has not yet issued a comment.
