Yaakov Peri joins Lapid's Yesh Atid

Former Shin Bet chief set to run for Knesset seat on behalf of Yesh Atid

Former Shin Bet Chief Yaakov Peri officially announced on Tuesday that he has joined Yair Lapid's Yesh Atid Party.

In a joint press conference with Lapid, Peri said that he is entering politics because "like many citizens, I feel like something basic just isn't working here."

Peri served as Shin Bet chief between the years 1988-1995. He later joined the private sector and was appointed president and CEO of Cellcom – a post he held until 2003.

He has since been dividing his time between the boards of several large companies including Mizrahi Tefahot Bank Ltd.

In 2011 he joined Kadima and declared he had no intention of running in the next elections.
