Anti, pro-Israel protests in New York

In Times Square, hundreds demonstrate against Israeli aerial assault on Gaza; Neturei Karta protesters 'cry for the Palestinians.' Pro-Israel rally held on 7th Avenue

Some 500 people participated on Sunday in an anti-Israel protest in Times Square, New York against Palestinian civilian deaths in Operation Pillar of Defense.

 

Meanwhile, a pro-Israel demonstration took place on 7th Avenue, in which less than 100 people participated, according to the local am-pm newspaper.

Pro-Israel demonstration on 7th Avenue

 

Demonstrations of this kind were held all around the world. In New York, dozens of members of the anti-Zionist ultra-Orthodox Jewish sect Neturei Karta rabbis stood on the Palestinian side.

"We are humiliated by the things being done in our name," said Rabbi Israel David Weiss, a member of Brooklyn's Neturei Karta community, in an interview for the am-pm paper. "We are crying for them", he added, referring to the Palestinians.

Anti-Israel demonstrations in Times Square

 

Neturei Karta members believe that the existence of a Jewish State prior to the coming of the Messiah is illegitimate.

 

The demonstrators held signs reading, "Israel must go", "Bibi Netanyahu and the State of Israel are not representative of world Jewry" and "Judaism rejects Zionism."

 

Hundreds of rockets have been fired at Israel since Operation Pillar of Defense was launched last week. 

 

Three Israeli civilians and a soldier have been kiled in the rocket attacks. Some 130 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes in Gaza.
