A soldier who was convicted of raping a female soldier 18 months ago was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison Wednesday, by the Rabin Base Military Court.
The soldier, who served with the Armored Corps at the time of the rape, was also convicted of two counts of indecent sexual assault and three counts of attempted witness tampering.

The latter charge was added to the indictment after the soldier tried to stop three of his comrades from testifying in the case.
Another soldier who was implicated in the case was given a reduced sentence in exchange for his testimony.
According to the case file, both soldiers molested their female comrade during a regiment exercise held in northern Israel.
The soldier who was convicted of rape denied the allegations attributed to him throughout the trial, but the prosecution was able to prove that the act was premeditated.
"The defendant thought nothing of violating the female soldier's person, her privacy and her dignity with his actions. His dismissive attitude regarding the incident constitutes cruelty, obtrusion and the debasing of others," the court ruled.
