In April 2011 four people were killed in a small plane crash at the Air Force Technical School in Haifa. An initial investigation revealed an engine failure shortly after takeoff. The pilot requested to return to the airstrip but hit nearby trees upon descending and caught fire.
In August 2008 four people were killed in the same place, at a light aircraft crash. The plane, coming from Cyprus, slipped during landing, veered off course and hit a residential structure in the nearby army base. Fortunately, since it was Passover vacation, no students were present at the scene.
