Following mortar shells fired on Israeli territory Saturday, IDF fires Tamuz missile on post from which mortars were fired, detects hit

Responding to gunfire from Syria, IDF fired a Tamuz missile at the direction of a Golan Heights post from which mortar shells were fired on Saturday.


The IDF reported that a hit has been detected, and a Syrian army canon that fired artillery fire at the direction of Israeli territory was destroyed.

According to the IDF, the mortar landing was apparently random spillover from the fighting in Syria.


UN troops in the region were informed of the mortar.


Earlier Saturday, another mortar hit near the border, but has yet to be located on the Syrian or Israeli side of the border fence.


Also Saturday, it was reported that 16 Syrian civilians injured by fighting between the army and rebels in their country were evacuated to Israeli hospitals.


Two of them were evacuated to Nahariya Hospital, two to Poriya Hospital in Tiberias, and the others to Ziv Medical Center.
