Gal Gadot mourns death of Paul Walker

Israeli actress bids farewell to 'Fast and Furious' co-star, who was killed in car crash. 'Lost a dear friend today. Paul was a great man with a big heart and passion for life,' she writes on Facebook

VIDEO - News of the sudden death of American actor Paul Walker has shocked Hollywood and his fans around the world, not just because he was considered a rising star, not because he had just recently finished shooting the seventh film in the "Fast and the Furious" series, and not even because of his tragic death in a car crash.

Walker's death saddened many people who knew and appreciated him for his kindness and generosity, as evident in eulogies posted on the Internet. One of them is Israeli actress and model Gal Gadot, who starred alongside Walker in three of the "Fast and the Furious" films.

"Lost a dear friend today," Gadot, who played the role of former Mossad agent Gisele Harabo, wrote on Facebook on Sunday. "So sudden and tragic... Hard to believe… Paul was a great man with a big heart and passion for life. I'm so sad he's no longer with us. Can't believe I'm actually writing this… I'm sending my condolences to his family and his precious daughter Meadow. Rest in peace brother. We will miss you here."

"Fast and the Furious" star Vin Diesel, who shared quite a few intensive action scenes with Walker on the set, posted a photograph of him and Walker arm-in-arm on Instagram with the message: "Brother, I will miss you very much. Heaven has gained a new angel. Rest in peace."

"Fast and Furious 7" director James Wan tweeted, "I am so beyond heartbroken right now. I can't process anything."

"All of us at Universal are heartbroken," Universal Pictures, which has released the "Fast & Furious" franchise, said in a statement. "Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the 'Fast and Furious' films, and to countless fans."

Walker, 40, was killed in a fiery car crash north of Los Angeles along with one other person in the vehicle.

Deputies found a Porsche Carrera GT engulfed in flames when they responded to a report of a collision Saturday afternoon in the community of Valencia, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. Two people who were found in the car were pronounced dead at the scene.

Walker's publicist Ame Van Iden confirmed the actor's death. A statement on Walker's Facebook page said he was a passenger in a friend's car, and that Walker was in the area to attend a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide.

The Sheriff's Department said that speed was a factor in the crash.

The Santa Clarita Valley Signal reported that the Porsche crashed into a light pole and tree and burst into flames. The fundraiser, to benefit victims of Typhoon Haiyan, took place at a nearby racecar shop. Attendees rushed to put out the flames with fire extinguishers to no avail.

Walker is survived by his 15-year-old daughter.
