Cellcom, Pelephone in talks for joint network

Communication corporations officially announce intention to establish joint 4th generation network

Cellcom announced Wednesday that it is in talks with Pelephone and Golan Telecom to try to establish a joint 4th generation network. The negotiations between Cellcom and Pelephone were first revealed three weeks ago in the Calcalist periodical. After Cellcom made its announcement, Pelephone confirmed the report via its parent company, Bezeq.

Cellcom and Pelephone announced that they want to share physical infrastructure in actual network locations, such as a mast that holds an antenna.

"At this stage there is no guarantee that the negotiations will lead to a deal, and as such, the conditions or timing of any such deal. There is also no guarantee that such a deal will be approved by both boards of directors," the statement said. "And as such, any agreement, if reached, will be subject to regulator approvals."

In November, Hot Mobile and Partner signed an agreement to share their current and future infrastructure. The deal is currently being reviewed by the antitrust authorities and has yet to be approved. Due to the agreement, other communication companies have also begun discussing potential cooperative agreements.
