Twitter users rank Tel Aviv as one of top 10 travel destinations

Online travel website TravelSupermaket compiles year's hottest tourist spots, with Israeli metropolis reaching sixth place.

Many Jewish people who have made aliyah to Israel, or have been on Birthright or a family trip, are in the know regarding Tel Aviv: it's one of the most exciting and fun cities to visit, on par with destinations like Ibiza, Barcelona, Amsterdam or Paris.

It has a nightlife that lasts all through the morning, a beach that is in walking distance from anywhere you are, a riveting restaurant scene, an out-of-this-world gay pride parade, and perhaps most importantly, smiling faces on almost everyone you encounter.

You may be prone to making friends anywhere you go, but in Tel Aviv - it's pretty much guaranteed.

That's what makes it pretty refreshing to know that the rest of the world is now taking notice.

As documented by travel deal website TravelSupermarket, Twitter users from around the world have labeled Tel Aviv in the top 10 hottest destinations to visit in 2014. TravelSupermarket amalgamated the most searched destinations among Twitter users this year, finding what users were most excited for.

What they came up with is somewhat surprising. The top spot came to a small coastal town in Croatia, Rovinj,

while Warsaw came in second place, with St. Petersburg coming in third.

"We’ve been keeping an eye on which destinations have been searched for over the last year to uncover the top holiday hot spots that have seen an unusual increase in interest,"

said travel expert Bob Atkinson of TravelSupermarket.

"It's often the case that new destinations start to come into our psyche as a result of a music or sports events, or even film and TV program from dramas to documentaries and we find our attention suddenly drawn towards a new place we might never have considered before."

For those making their way to Tel Aviv this summer, there's a multitude of events going on, including the aforementioned pride parade (June 13), the Rolling Stones (June 4) Justin Timberlake (May 28) concerts, the Tel Aviv International Student Film Festival, and more.

See you there.
