The decision was taken because of his support for Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount and his independent visits at settlement construction sites in East Jerusalem, as well his intentions to move into a residence in the City of David complex within Silwan.
The security detail will be administered by the "Shield" unit at the Prime Minister's Office, which is responsible for the direct protection of ministers.
The homes of government ministers are under constant protection, though the majority are not provided a direct detail and are only allotted personal protection when they pass the Green Line, visit Arab towns, or fly abroad.
Meanwhile, a separate Shin Bet unit exists to protect seven symbols of the government – the president, the prime minister, the foreign minister, the defense minister, the president of the Supreme Court, the chairman of the Knesset, and the chairman of the Opposition.
"This is the price you pay for standing on your Zionist principles in the Middle East," said Uriel's office. "The growing and spreading support for the settlements and the settlement party prove that the principles we insist on are achieving their aims."
