IS hostage Cantlie presents 'last film'

British photojournalist appears in another propaganda video for the Islamic State, praising its rule; says it is 'the last film in this series', hinting that his value has expired.

A new propaganda video for the Islamic State group, supposedly the final one to feature British journalist John Cantlie, appeared online Monday.

Cantlie, who was captured in November 2012, has been appearing in a series of such videos. In this latest one, he refers to it as "the last film in this series".

The video shows Cantlie giving a tour of the Syrian city of Aleppo. In one section, he interviews a French-speaking gunman, who praises last month's terror attacks in Paris.

The gunman also urges French Muslims to carry out more attacks. "Muslims in the West number in the millions and are capable of inflicting mass carnage," he says.

In another section, Cantlie visits a Sharia court and defends its rulings. “If you are convicted of robbery, with the correct number of witnesses and so forth, you have your hand cut off,” he says. “It might sound harsh, but you are not going to commit the same crime, and it prevents others from doing the same.”

Visiting a religious school, Cantlie says of its students that "with any luck they will form the mujahedeen for the next generation.”

He also says that despite bombing of the city, its economy is "thriving".

At another point, a militant tells the journalist he is certain the group will never be vanquished, because God is on its side. He claims efforts to weaken it are only doing the opposite.
