The camera was rolling Wednesday morning when a Merkava tank was overturned during a military exercise in the Golan after the ground it traveled on collapse beneath its weight. The tank crew emerged unharmed from the incident which could easily have led to injuries or death.
The accident was filmed by an onlooking soldier who also took part in the exercise and watched the tank tilt on its side before turning over completely.
Following the proper procedures, the tank commander reported the incident by radio as soon as he began to feel the tank losing its balance. Previous cases of tank accidents during military accidents have resulted in worse circumstances including a 2005 incident in which one soldier was killed and three others were wounded.
