Sean Paul to perform in Israel

Jamaican singer's concert will take place on January 23 at Tel Aviv's Menora Mivtachim Arena; tickets go on sale December 3, start at NIS 199.

Jamaican singer Sean Paul is coming to Israel for a concert on January 23. The Grammy-award winner will perform in Tel Aviv's Menora Mivtachim Arena (Yad Eliyahu Arena), and is currently expected to hold just one concert. This will be Paul's second concert in Israel, with his first being back in 2007.

Paul was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and has Jewish roots, but grew up Catholic. He initially followed an athletics path, even making it to the Jamaican national water polo team, but turned to music at the age 21.

Paul was a standout at a Jamaican talent show in 1998, which led him to meet record producer Jeremy Harding.

Within two years of Harding and Paul's first meeting at the studio, the latter's first album was released, titled Stage One. His big break came with his second outing, Dutty Rock, songs from which were featured on the Billboard 100 list. The album sold at least 6 million copies. Dutty Rock also garnered Paul a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album.

In August 2003, Paul released the song Baby Girl with Beyoncé. The song was co-written by the two and reached the top spot of many charts.

Since then, Paul has collaborated with many known artists including Rihanna and Enrique Iglesias.

Tickets to his concert are expected to go on sale on Thursday, December 3, with prices starting at NIS 199.
