Sara Netanyahu: Our dog Kaia is suffering

After Netanyahu family's dog was quarantined for biting two people, PM's wife speaks out about the difficulties Kaia is going through.

Following the quarantining of Kaia, the Netanyahu family dog who bit two guests at a Hannukah event, the prime minister's Sara Netanyahu has spoken out about the difficulties the family pet is going through.

"She is a very old dog. It's painful for her to be in a difficult physical situation and she is also not in a good mental state at the moment," Mrs. Netanyahu said, speaking at a Hanukkah candle lighting ceremony on Sunday.

Kaia was quarantined on Thursday after biting Likud MK Sharron Haskel and the husband of Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely at a Hanukkah candle lighting event at the Prime Minister's residence last week.

After the quarantining, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called to change the existing law, saying: "We were compelled, with sorrow, to put Kaia into quarantine, as required by law. Following this case I was exposed to the issue of putting dogs in quarantine and found flaws that are not in line with logic and compassion."

Netanyahu has instructed the Health and Agriculture Ministries, as well as animal rights organizations, to formulate legislation to change and improve the existing legislation.

Netanyahu himself was reportedly bitten as well in July, and needed to get a rabies shot. The dog was not, however, put in quarantine after reportedly biting the prime minister.
