Orel Guetta, 24, of Kfar Saba died on Sunday in a bungee jumping accident in Peru.
According to reports, the bungee cord didn't release correctly, causing Guetta to slam into one of the support beams of the bungee platform, seriously injuring him. He died as a result of severe blood loss before rescue services were not able to reach him.
His body was sent to the SOS clinic in Cusco, where three of his friends came and identified him. A message was then sent to his family.
The Foreign Ministry said in response: "We share the pain of the family. The Department for Israelis Abroad is working together with the Israeli consul in Lima to repatriate the body."
Another Israeli, Max Selah, 24, from Shoham, died in Peru in a zip-line accident in April 2015. He fell from the zip-line platform while on a post-army trip to Machu Picchu.
The company oprating the zip-line wrote on their website that "at The Heart of Cusco we managed to make an amazing 'mountain experience' for people with no climbing experience. We climb in the safest manner and then zip-line down the mountain."
